BAPTIST RECORDS

ATCHA holds Baptist Church records for some Baptist and Free Baptist churches of the area. We hold the original records of the Kemptville Baptist Church, 1833-1970. These consists of church minute books, financial records, membership records, etc. In order to use these records researchers require a letter of permission from the Church Clerk, Kemptville United Baptist Church, Kemptville, Yarmouth County, NS, B0W 1Y0.

ATCHA also holds photocopies of the records of a number of Baptist and Free Baptist Churches from the Argyle and Pubnico areas. These include churches that were located at Argyle, Glenwood, Central Argyle, Lower Argyle, Argyle Sound, Pubnico, and East Pubnico. These consist of church minutes, financial records, Home Mission Board records, etc. The originals of these records were taken to Acadia University in 1988, but were photocopied by ATCHA prior to their delivery.

The main repository for all Baptist records for Atlantic Canada is the Baptist Archives at Acadia University. Researchers may find further records of interest at that repository.

Genealogists should be forewarned that Baptist Church records seldom include vital statistics. Sometimes deaths of church members are recorded on their membership lists.
