Series A: Town Council Records. — 1910-1947. — 28 cm of textual records.

Series consists of records created and maintained by the Town Council for the Town of Wedgeport. The Town Council consisted of a Mayor and six Councillors who held regular monthly meetings and special meetings as deemed necessary by Council.

Series contains minutes of the Town Council and of its Arbitration Committee from 1910-1947; by-laws, ordinances, and resolutions adopted by Council; petitions; applications for licences; deeds and legal agreements; tourism related material; and town officers’ and employees’ records.

Sub-series 1: Minutes. — 1910-1947. — 13 cm of textual records.

Sub-series contains minute books kept by the Town Clerk recording business carried out at Council meetings.

The minute book dated 1910-1912 was also kept for some time by Town Treasurer, Anselm O. Pothier and appears to have been an old Math exercise book from the 1860′s, with the first 66 pages being addition and multiplication exercises. Pages 67-94 consist of the first minutes of the Town Council, followed by running expenses of Town Clerk, Marin O. Pothier. Pages 102-304 are general account records. Pages 341-356, near the end of the book, are minutes of The Board of the School Commissioner kept from 1910 to 1912, most of which are upside-down. The Town Council minute book dated 1910-1943 includes a copy of by-laws and ordinances for the Town of Wedgeport inserted at the front.

Sub-series 2: Arbitration Committee Records. — 1910-1947. — 1.5 cm of textual records.

Sub-series contains minutes, account reports, notes and associated correspondence of the Joint Committee for shared expenditures between the Municipality of Argyle and the Town of Wedgeport. This committee met periodically with the councillors for the Municipality of Argyle and followed up by reporting to Town Council.

Sub-series 3: Applications for Licences and Licences Issued. — 1923-1947. — 2 cm of textual records.

Sub-series consists of applications for licences addressed to the Town Council from various individuals as well as those licences issued upon approval by Town Council. Requests for licenses were for peddling, trading, operating taxi services, etc.

Sub-series 4: By-laws and Ordinances. — 1910-1945. — 2.5 cm of textual records.

Sub-series contains Town by-laws and ordinances approved by Council as well as revisions to by-laws and resolutions passed at Council meetings.

Sub-series 5: Deeds and Legal Agreements. — 1924-1944. — 1 cm of textual records.

Sub-series contains deeds conveying property between the Town and private individuals; and legal agreements. Sub-series is arranged chronologically and is arranged into two files, one for deeds, and the other for agreements and all other related material.

Sub-series 6: Petitions. — 1929-1945. — 1 cm of textual records.

Sub-series contains petitions addressed to Town Council from various groups and petitions forwarded from the Council to provincial authorities.

Sub-series 7: Tourism Related Material. — 1930-1947. — 1 cm oftextual records.

Sub-series consists of records documenting business brought before the Council pertaining to tourism and publicity for the Town.

Sub-series 8: Town Officers’ and Employees’ Records. — 1911-1939. — 6 cm of textual records.

Sub-series consists of records of appointment and employment of Town Officers and Employees who served the Town. Sub-series has been arranged chronologically and is divided into eight files, including applications (1939-1947); appointments (1942-1943); nominations (1936-1947); oaths (1911-1947); resignations (1936-1944); Employment and Selective Service Office (1944); Unemployment Insurance Commission (1941-1945); and the Workmen’s Compensation Board (1921-1934, 1939).
