Series contains all extant records relating to municipal elections in the Municipality of Argyle for the period 1928-1986. The series is arranged into three sub-series including:

• election files and maps
• book of oaths
• printed instructions for municipal elections.

Sub-series 1: Election files and map. — Scale indeterminable. – 1928-1986. — 54 cm of textual records. — 1 map : ms., black ink on tracing paper.

Sub-series consists of records created through the election process, including nomination papers, voters lists, poll books, and returns of presiding officers at the close of polls. The records extant for each election varies.

The records for 1982 are the most complete in the series and have been retained as an indication to researchers of the municipal electoral process in Nova Scotia. These records include:

• nomination papers
• voters’ oaths of qualification
• candidates’ appointment of agent forms
• enumerators’ responsibilities
• list of poll locations
• notices
• lists of voters at advance polls
• correspondence
• proxy papers
• revised list of electors
• councillors’ signed ‘oaths of allegiance and of office’
• signed ‘affidavits re removal of advertising materials’.

Sub-series 2: Book of oaths. — 1926-1976. — 1 volume.

Sub-series contains one volume of oaths which were signed and sworn by the wardens, councillors and clerks of the Municipality of the District of Argyle upon taking up their public office.

Sub-series 3: Instructions to presiding officers, poll clerks, etc., at municipal elections. — 1928-1964 — 3 cm of textual records (13 booklets).

Sub-series consists of printed booklets of instructions for the holding of municipal elections in Nova Scotia. Some booklets are undated.
