A true certified copy of the records from the family Bible of Eleazer Churchill, 1817-1888 and Lois Ann Trask, 1820-1888, of Yar. Co., NS, who were married on 6 Jan. 1841. Bible was subsequently kept by their daughter, Edna S. Churchill, 1849-1920, who married 24 Nov.1870 Joseph H. Cook. They lived in Yar. Co., NS. No title page.

Includes obituary clippings & photocopies of photographs that were kept in the Bible.

Loaned to archives for copying by Marshall Moses, Gardner’s Mills, Yar. Co., NS, who borrowed same from his great-uncle, George Cook, South Ohio, Yar. Co., NS, who owned the original in 1988. 11p.

Includes births, deaths & marriage records of the children and grandchildren of Margaret Comeau.

True certified copy of the records from the family Bible of John Cook & Ruth Magray [McGray] of Melbourne, Yar. Co., NS who were married 20 Dec. 1860. Bible published by Case, Tiffany & Co., Hartford, Conn., 1857.

Includes photocopies of anniversary clippings found in Bible; loose paper in Bible [quite old] giving the births of John Cook & his siblings, as well as some miscellaneous deaths.

Loaned to archives for copying by Eric Whitehouse, Deerfield, Yar. Co., NS who borrowed same from Jackie (Cook) Porter of Pleasant Valley, Yar. Co., NS who owned the original in 1990. The Bible was passed down through her family to her. 11p. [2 copies]

True certified copy of the records from the family Bible of Lemuel Crosby & Susan Dennis of Yar. Co., NS who were married on 30 Jan. 1823. Bible published by Langdon Coffin, Boston, 1831.

This “photocopy” of the original record was donated to the archives by Mrs. Harriet (Crosby) Cody [Mrs. Thornton], Pen Lane, Centerville, Mass. 02632 USA who owned the original in 1990. She is a granddaughter of Alethia (Hines) Crosby who was b. 1868. 5p.

True certified copy of the records from the family Bible of Reuben Crosby & Zeruiah Patten of Wellington, Yar. Co., NS who were married on 13 Apr. 1843. Bible published by Robert Sears, 181 William St., N.Y., 1857.

Includes typed transcript of the family records and ownership history of Bible.

Original Bible owned in 1989 by Clifford & Viola Crosby of Wellington, Yar. Co., NS Bible was handed down to Clifford through his father, Henry Crosby of Wellington, who in turn received it from his own father, Reuben Crosby, who was the original owner. Bible was borrowed by Marshall Moses, Gardner’s Mills, Yar. Co., NS and brought to the archives for copying. 17p.

MG1 Ser. E Crosby, #3

Records from the family Bible of Lucinda (Durkee) Crosby who married Freeman Crosby 12 Aug. 1877. The record of the family of Jacob & Mary Durkee (Lucinda’s parents) is also recorded although this appears to have been written in at a later date. A much older handwritten record on a loose piece of paper is also found in the bible, which records the births of Jacob’s parents, John durkee, b. 1788 & his wife Catherine, b. 1788. All record pages from the Bible are now loose. Also included is a memorial card for Roy Crosby who d. 18 June 1887 aged 8 months. Bible was donated to archives by Society member Fred Whitehouse, Yarmouth, NS, who obtained the Bible from Evvie Crosby, Hebron, NS

Bible was published at Hartford by Case, Tiffany & Co., 1857. 8 pp.

Records from the family Bible of David Crosby & Sarah H. Corning of Yarmouth Co., NS who were married on 7 Oct. 1841. Bible also contains births for David Crosby’s parents and siblings. Bible published at Hartford, Connecticut: Case Tiffany & Co., 1857.

Record loaned for copying by Ann Sorensen, R.R.# 1 South Ohio, Yar. Co., NS B0W 3E0 who obtained her copy from the Yarmouth County Historical Society, 22 Collins St., Yarmouth, NS Their COPY was deposited there by Hugh Brown of Cedar Lake, Yar. Co., NS who owns the original Bible. The house he lives in was former Judson Porter house, and previous to that the Benjamin Porter house. 8p.

MG1 Ser. E Crosby, #5

True certified copy of the Family Bible which was probably kept by Lemuel & Emma Crosby of Yarmouth Co., NS. Their marriage is not recorded here. Bible contains births of their children & the children of their son, Lemuel & his wife Thankful. It also records some family deaths. Bible published at Hartford, Connecticut by Andrus, Judd & Franklin, 1837. This Bible passed from Mahala (Crosby) Goudey to Alice Goudey and then to L.C. Goudey. It was presented on 25 Sep 1938 to the Durkee Memorial Library in Carleton, Yar.Co., NS.

True certified copy of the records from the family Bible of Alden H. Crowell & Victoria Roberts of East Kemptville, Yar. Co., NS who were married on 1 Dec.1883. Birth, marriages & deaths are also recorded in this Bible for Alden Crowell’s parents, & siblings, and for Victoria Roberts’ siblings.

“Bible” is really “Bible Readings for the Home Circle” published by Review & Herald Publishing Co., Toronto, 1889.

Loaned for copying by Peter Crowell, 405 Pleasant St., Yarmouth, NS who owned the original in 1990. He acquired the Bible from the home of his great-grandparents in East Kemptville, after the death of his great-uncle, Ford K. Crowell. 8p.

MG1 Ser. E Crowell, #2

Original “Salesman’s Bible”. This is a curiosity item which was purchased by Peter Crowell in 1977 at a library book sale at the Yarmouth Library, Yarmouth, NS. He later entered Crowell family records in the Bible. It is a salesman’s Bible with many different models of covers, illustrations, pages for family records, etc.

Throughout the Bible are slips of pink paper bound into the bible which give the salesman various pointers to assist in selling the Bible. Crowell family records which were written in 1977 refer largely to the Crowells of East Kemptville, Yar. Co., NS and their ancestors. Bible was donated to the archives in 1990 by Peter Crowell, 405 Pleasant St., Yarmouth, NS Bible published by Bradley, Garretson & Co., Brantford, Ont. [and in several U.S. locations], 1882. irregular paging.

MG1 Ser. E Crowell, #3

True certified copy of the records from the family Bible of Andrew L. Crowell & Sarah Wilson of Shelburne Co., N.S. who were married 31 Jan.1828. The Bible records the births, marriages and deaths of them and their children. The Bible appears to have been next owned by their daughter, Letitia Wilson Crowell who married Thomas S. Robertson on 4 Jan. 1858 and the births of their children, as well as some additional Crowell children are recorded in the Bible. This edition of the Bible has ” Notes, Reflections, Questions…” etc. by Rev. Ingram Corbin, M.A. and was published by Case, Tiffany and Company in Hartford, Connecticut in 1856.

A copy of these records was obtained by Kenneth Peters, Pubnico, N.S., from Larry Stevens and wife of Pubnico, Yar. Co., N.S. They are in the antique and computer business and bid on this Bible at an auction, Mrs. Stevens wanting it because of her own connections to Barrington Crowells, although not specifically to this particular family. Her intention is to keep the Bible herself – she did not acquire it for resale. 5p. [Access.#M1997:64]

MG1 Ser. E Crowell, #4

Records from the family Bible of Henry Crowell & Mary Eldridge of Deerfield and Kemptville, Yar.Co., N.S. who were married 14 March 1858. Bible was published in the U.S. in 1890 and is called “The Pronouncing Edition of the Holy Bible…” This particular Bible was owned by Nellie Elizabeth (Churchill) Fevens, 1917-1984, of Yar.Co., N.S. The records in this Bible may have been copied from an even older one. This Bible was given to the Kemptville United Baptist Church by Mr. Lawrence Fevens, after his wife’s death in 1984. It was still there, in a display case in the church entrance in 1997.

Photocopies include some family obituary clippings also found in the Bible. 11p. [Accession #M1998:100]

MG1 Ser. E Crowell, #5

Records from the family Bible of John P. Crowell & Lois A. Earle who were married 8 January 1863. This Bible was passed from them to their daughter, Almina Ellen Crowell who married Oscar Roberts, and passed from them to their only child, Wilma M. Roberts who married Frank Frost. All three generations lived on Roberts Island, Yarmouth Co., N.S. Frank and Wilma Frost passed this Bible on their daughter, Edith (Frost) Davis, wife of Walter C. Davis, Yarmouth, N.S. who owned the original in 1999.

Bible was published simultaneously in Philadelphia by Hubbards Brothers and in Auburn, N.Y. by Fred M. Smith. A page of editorial essays within the Bible is the only indication of a possible publication date. The date given is 1872. 11p. [Accession no.M1999:130]

A true certified copy of the records from the family Bible of Jonathan Crowell, 1836-1904 & Lois Tooker Gray, 1838-1926, of East Kemptville, Yar. Co., NS. The bible was printed at the University Press for the British and Foreign Bible Society, Oxford, 1876.

Includes birth dates of their children, newpaper clippings of family marriages & deaths. Some family deaths are also handwritten.

The bible was loaned to the Archives for copying by Peter Crowell, 405 Pleasant St., Yarmouth, NS B5A 4H5. He borrowed the bible from Miss Alice Crowell, Beacon St., Yarmouth, NS, in July 1997. She inherited this bible from her parents Ralph B. & Lucy Crowell of East Kemptville, Yar. Co., NS. Ralph B. Crowell was a son of the original owners of the bible. 8 p. [Access. #M1997 : 59]

Records from the family Bible of Ralph B. & Lucy (Greenlaw) Crowell of East Kemptville, Yar.Co., NS.This edition of the Bible is the “Comprehensive Teachers’ Bible” published by James Cott & Co., New York and by S. Bagster & Sons Ltd. London. It was printed by Braunworth, Munn & Barber at Brooklyn, NY. There is no publication date found anywhere in this Bible. This is not an old Bible – and probably dates from the 1920s-1940s.

Bible record records marriage of Ralph Crowell & Lucy Greenlaw in 1909, the births of their three daughters and the death of their daughter, Ruth, in 1926. Another page of deaths in the Bible contains a number of family entries. The remainder of the records in this Bible (3p.) are records copied from an earlier Bible owned by Jonathan Crowell (Ralph B.’s father).

MG1 Ser. E Cunningham #1

True certified copy of the records from the family Bible of Lemuel C. Cunningham & Margery Newell who were married 30 Dec. 1875. This edition of the Bible is “The Holy bible containing the Old and New Testaments Translated out of the original ongues and with Former Translations Diligently Compared and Revised – Self-Pronouncing Edition.” There is no page remaining which gives a publisher or publication date.

The flyleaf of the Bible contains the following inscription – “Mrs. Lemuel C. Cunningham/Stony Island/Cape S. Island/October 4th 1903.” The Bible contains several obituary clippings. Bible records the marriage of Lemuel C. Cunningham of Stony Island and Margery Newell of Newellton, Shelburne Co., N.S. on 30 Dec. 1875, and then records the births, marriages and death of their children. The Bible next passed to their son, Douglas T. Cunningham, then to his daughter, Rosalie (Cunningham) White, the present owner.
