Series I: Elections. — 1879-1926. — 137 cm of textual records.

Series consists of all extant records relating to Municipal Elections in the Municipality of Argyle for the period 1879-1925. The series is arranged into five sub-series including:

voters lists
poll books, returns of presiding officers, and related material
oaths
electoral district boundaries and revisions
printed election notices and promotional material of candidates.

Sub-series 1: Voters Lists. — 1879-1925. — 114 cm of textual records.

Sub-series consists of voters lists used for Municipal Elections in the Municipality of Argyle for the years 1879, 1886, 1888, 1890-1925.

Some Provincial and Federal voters lists were used by the election officials in compiling Municipal voters lists.

Voters lists for some years, for some districts, have not survived.

Sub-series 2: Poll Books, Returns of Presiding Officers, and Related Material. — 1879-1926. –
20 cm of textual records.

Sub-series consists of poll books which record the election results for the respective districts where elections were held. Sub-series also consists of returns of presiding officers, appointments of revisers of voters lists, appointments of presiding officers, appointments of electoral agents, instructions to revisers of electoral lists (1918), and surviving nomination papers for electoral candidates.

Not all records have survived.

Sub-series 3: Oaths. — 1880-1924. — 1 cm of textual records.

Sub-series consists of a book of oaths for Municipal Councilors and Wardens from the 13th of January, 1880 to the 4th of February, 1924. Oaths were taken when the respective Councilors and Wardens were sworn into office.

Sub-series 4: Electoral District Boundaries and Revisions. — 1892. — 1 cm of textual records.

Sub-series consists of documents relating to the revisions of electoral district boundaries within the Municipality of Argyle for the year 1892.

Sub-series 5: Printed Election Notices and Promotional Material of Candidates. — 1898-1913. — 1 cm of textual records.

Sub-series consists of printed ballots and election notices in broadsheet format that would have been posted publicly in various communities.
